In his address, Hon. Kenneth Marende underlined the importance of exercising balanced leadership in order for Kenya to become a peaceful nation. He said that this can be achieved through ensuring equal resource distribution as well as engaging in activities that preach peace and unity rather than disarray.
The Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya, Elisabeth Jacobsen emphasised in her speech the importance of fostering genuine reconciliation. In this respect she, like Hon. Marende, spoke of the country's political leadership. She said that leadership in Kenya must come from the top, but underlined that every citizen play a vital role in the pursuit of peace and reconciliation for the country.
The representative from the Community of Integrated IDPs, Mr Martin Ngugi brought attention to the challenges faced by the IDPs in Limuru. The community group presented a Memorandum outlining the current situation of the IDPs as well as their expectations from all concerned parties in ensuring that their quandaries and generally that of all displaced people in Kenya is addressed.
The Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue and Democracy Hearings are part of a broader project on engaging Members of Parliament in sustainable peacebuilding and national reconciliation in Kenya. The objective is to strengthen cooperation between Parliamentarians and communities affected by the post election violence in promoting dialogue and reconciliation.
