Amani-concert for the young in Uhuru Park.

09/12/2009 // On Saturday 5 December 2009 The Sarakasi Trust together with the Norwegian Embassy invited Nairobians to a free concert at Uhuru Park to promote peace and reconciliation among young Kenyans.

The Norwegian Embassy has since 2008 supported the work of the Sarakasi Trust through the Amani Circus for Healing and Reconciliation. The goal of the project has been to promote healing, peace, unity and reconciliation among Kenyans in Nairobi’s informal settlements affected by the post-election violence.

The underlying thought has been that if people work together and learn from each other, they will be able to transform their negative experiences and

trauma into art and creative expression.

And exactly this creativity and joy in performing was what the Amani youth showed the several thousand spectators present at Uhuru Park.
The youth from the Amani circus impressed with their acrobatic skills and dancing. The youth were followed on stage by big names including Profesa Jay, M.O.G., Mike Rua, Jua Cali and the reward winning Wafalme Kids.

In her speech the Ambassador highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence among the people of Kenya. Through the youth groups trained by Sarakasi the young people of Kenya show that people from different communities can cooperate, work together and build friendships.
