The Norwegian Ambassador presents his credentials to the President of Somalia

Ambassador Victor Conrad Rønneberg on 18 March 2015 presented his credentials to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The presentation took place at the Presidential Palace in Villa Somalia in Mogadishu. Ambassador Rønneberg said in his accreditation speech that he would endeavour to strengthen the bonds between Somalia and Norway while continuing to support the Somali leadership and the Somali people in their endeavour to strengthen peace and security, promote stability and ensure a better life for all Somalis. In his reply President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud thanked Ambassador Rønneberg for Norway’s assistance to Somalia and reiterated the mutual wish to strengthen the bond between the two countries.
The President further underlined that the elections in 2016 must happen on time, and that Somalia needs to move beyond clan-based selection. Ambassador Rønneberg agreed and underlined the need to move forward on implementing Vision 2016 and its goals of federating Somalia, revising the Constitution and ensuring that the voice of the Somali people be heard through holding nation-wide, democratic elections in 2016.
Amb. Rønneberg also met with the Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament, Hon. Mohamed Osman Jawari, who underlined the friendship between the two countries. The Speaker also thanked Norway for the long-standing commitment towards helping the Somali people achieve peace, stability and development. Hon. Jawari and Ambassador Rønneberg also discussed opportunities and challenges lying ahead for the Somalia and for Somali-Norwegian relations.
