Norwegian Support for Stabilisation Efforts in Somalia
The Norwegian Embassy met representatives from the Somali Ministry of Internal and Federal Affairs on 5 July to discuss links between the Wadajir Framework and the upcoming bilateral cooperation programme to support stabilisation efforts in Somalia.
On 5 July 2016 the Norwegian Embassy met representatives from the Somali Ministry of Internal and Federal Affairs (MoIFA) to discuss the Wadajir Framework and Norwegian stabilisation efforts in Somalia. The Wadajir framework sets out a five step approach to district council formation in Somalia - the third layer of government structures within the federal state.
The Norwegian Embassy is cooperating with the Somali Federal Government to launch a three-year bilateral stabilisation programme in Somalia starting mid-July 2016. It is a key Norwegian priority to continue the close cooperation with the Somali Federal government, where strong emphasis is placed on aligning support to stabilisation efforts to national priorities such as the Wadajir framework. Norwegian support for stabilisation efforts in Somalia will include a major focus on labour intensive works and on promoting gender equality and women's rights.
