Norwegian Ambassador visits Tana River

The Norwegian Ambassador, Mr Victor Rønneberg, visited Tana River County from 7 to 8 December, where he met with local leaders and civil society to gain a better understanding of the County and learn about preparations for the 2017 elections.

The Ambassador was told he was the first ever Head of Mission to visit the County capital of Hola. There Mr Rønneberg met with the Council of Elders; the Governor, H.E. Amb. Hussein Dado; the Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon. Nuh Nassir Abdi; and the County Commissioner, Mr Isaiah Nakoru.

The County leaders made a strong impression through their emphasis on development, peaceful co-existence and joint efforts to ensure a credible and inclusive election in Tana River.

The Ambassador met with regional authorities and civil society in Malindi before the visit to gain an understanding of the characteristics of Tana River County. Further, in Garsen, Mr Rønneberg met with Muslims for Human Rights and the Peace Club of Garsen High School to learn about their efforts to ensure effective public consultation and peacebuilding in the County.
