Norway signs new framework agreement with UN Environment Programme (UNEP)

10th of August 2016, The Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya Victor C. Rønneberg and UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim met at the UN Offices in Nairobi to sign a new framework agreement between Norway and UNEP. The agreement lays the foundation for Norway’s continued support to UNEP.

Ambassador Rønneberg said, “This new framework agreement enables a more holistic and efficient partnership between UNEP and Norway, and I hope that the agreement will contribute to enhancing our long-standing collaboration”.

Norway has for many years been a close and important partner to UNEP, providing flexible contributions as a vital pillar to promote a healthy planet for all peoples.

The signing of the new framework agreement came only a few weeks after Erik Solheim took over as the new head of UNEP, the first Norwegian to hold this position. Solheim said on UNEPs behalf that, "this is another example of what has long been an excellent and fruitful relationship between Norway and UN Environment, and we look forward to continuing to work together with Norway to achieve our many common goals in environment and development."
