Launch of UPR Info's Africa Office

Last updated: 22.04.2016 // The Norwegian Embassy attended 19 April the launch of UPR Info's Regional Office in Africa. UPR Info is a key partner for Norway's international human rights work.

UPR Info is an non-governmental organization that aims to promote the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on countries' human rights obligations at the UN Human Rigths Council in Geneva. UPR Info collaborates with goverments, civil society organizations, national human rights institutions, UN agencies and academia to prepare and follow-up on recommendations made during the reviews in Geneva.

Norway currently supports UPR Info with KES 35 million (NOK 3 mill) over a two year period. In addition to UPR Info's headquarters in Geneva, the organization now has two regional offices, one in Nairobi and one in Bangkok.

UPR Info is, together with the Department of Justice, the National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), following up on the recommendations made to Kenya during its review in 2015. The Norwegian Embassy has engaged on Norway's recommendation concerning the establishment of a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights.
