19 February 2010 Ambassador Elisabeth Jacobsen attended a work shop on hate motivated crime hosted by GALCK (Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya) to learn about the recent violent episodes including members of the gay and lesbian community in Kenya and what the people affected can do to protect themselves.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights formally launched its new Strategic Plan on Thursday January 28th, 2010. Alongside other prominent guests present, were the Dutch and Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya present, H.E. Laetitia van den Assum and H. E. Elisabeth Jacobsen, respectively.

The Norwegian Embassy has decided to support the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR), with in all NOK 10 million (app. Ksh 120 million).

On 29 September, President of the Norwegian parliament Thorbjørn Jagland was elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Now he intends to modernise what he describes as the world’s most important human rights organisation, and make it more effective.

The Norwegian ambassador H.E. Elisabeth Jacobsen, together with Heads of Missions from Canada, Switzerland and the European Union, invited yesterday, 16th July 2009, to a press conference at Hilton Hotel. The rationale behind the statement was for the Heads of Missions to express their joint support for the formation of a local tribunal to try suspects orchestrating the 2007 post election violence.

 “I am pleased that Norway has now been elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Council. Our work now begins in earnest. During the next three years we will participate actively in the Council. We will take our share of responsibility and work systematically to promote human rights,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

H.E. Ambassador Elisabeth Jacobsen opened the Media Council of Kenya’s regional seminar on media law and ethics that took place in Nairobi on 27. – 30. March, 2008. The participants were trainers of journalists from Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Norway.
