In her speech, Ambassador Jacobsen underlined the importance of having more women working in the media, in order to influence and change attitudes, and to bring women’s voices and concerns to the front page. She also pointed to the crucial role of the media in holding politicians and leaders accountable.
Norway and AMWIK cooperate through an exchange programme called “Fredskorpset” which enables a Kenyan woman journalist to spend a year in a Norwegian media institution, and a young Norwegian journalist to spend a year in AMWIK. Norway is also supporting AMWIK through the Gender & Governance Programme in Kenya.
